About

Matthew Barton is an education researcher, agriculture specialist, and media content provider based in the UAE. With a master’s degree in horticulture and a passion for experiential learning, Matthew founded TerraHands to work with schools, organizations, and community groups by developing hands-on educational opportunities focused on nature, agriculture, sustainability, and cultural heritage. Currently collaborating with the Arabian Desert Camel Riding Center, Matthew helps create engaging programs that connect students and communities with the UAE’s environment, traditions, and agricultural heritage.

Matthew makes science interesting. He develops lessons that are hands-on, accessible, and engaging to a wide range of ages and interests. It’s fun for the adults too!
— Nichole P., science teacher

Matthew’s passion for nature is truly remarkable. His enthusiasm for birding has captivated our entire family, leading us to become deeply engrossed in birdwatching. We thoroughly appreciated his comprehensive understanding and profound knowledge of birds in this region, which has inspired my children to further explore the subject through books and binoculars.

Benefits

TerraHands empowers students, staff, and communities through hands-on learning experiences that connect education with the real world while fostering sustainability, cultural understanding, and meaningful community impact.

Hands-on Learning Experiences

We work with schools and organizations to move beyond traditional classroom instruction by creating meaningful, experiential learning opportunities. Students learn by doing, exploring, and engaging directly with nature, agriculture, and local heritage.

An overhead, bird’s-eye view of a meticulously arranged learning garden bed divided into clean geometric sections by narrow wooden borders. Each section contains different stages of plant growth, from freshly tilled dark earth to lush, leafy greens, with small, clearly printed educational plaques staked into the soil. The scene is bathed in bright but diffused midday light from an overcast sky, giving even illumination without harsh shadows. Surrounding the bed are neatly coiled hoses, a closed notebook, and organized tools laid on a paved path, all slightly blurred to center focus on the garden layout. The photographic style is clean and modern, evoking structured, professional outdoor education through real-world practice.

Collaborative Community Partnerships

TerraHands serves as a catalyst between individuals, educational institutions, businesses, and community organizations, helping them create innovative projects and shared learning experiences.

Meaningful Connections to UAE Heritage

Through our nation-wide partnerships with businesses and organizations such as the Arabian Desert Camel Riding Centre, we provide unique opportunities for students and communities to engage with the UAE’s history, traditions, desert ecosystems, and agricultural heritage.

A sturdy, open notebook with cream-colored pages filled with neat, diagrammatic sketches of plant life cycles lies on a rustic wooden table. Beside it rests a small terracotta pot containing a single, healthy seedling with vivid green leaves emerging from rich, moist soil. A sharpened wooden pencil and a stainless-steel trowel with soil clinging to its edge are placed diagonally across the composition. Warm late-afternoon sunlight streams in from the right, creating elongated shadows and a golden, contemplative glow over the scene. The photographic realism, captured from a slightly elevated angle with sharp focus, conveys a thoughtful, professional atmosphere where theory and hands-on learning meet to grow something meaningful.
